Managing Cash
May 26th 2009 23:02
In order to manage cash, the experts agree that you need to have a budget and a savings. You can't live from paycheck-to-paycheck indefinitely. You also shouldn't live beyond your means. There are low-tech ways to manage cash. Meaning writing it down, saving receipts, cash or not evaluation, and comparison shopping.
I see people throw away money everyday on vices and stupid decisions. Those who believe they'll retire by winning the lottery, well good luck! Nothing really wrong with vices if you can control them and your money. But when a vice comes before food, rent/mortgage, bills, necessities, savings, etc., then it is a problem. I used gambling because almost everyone I know gambles. There are other vices. I would spend over $25 a day if I still smoked today. Ironically, I'm betting I'd still be alive!
Then there are the stupid decisions. A guy I work with buys a yogurt and a fruit cup with a Mountain Dew. At an airport with an employee discount it runs him $8. At a store a mile down the road, the same items would be $4. Multiply the figures by 5X a week. Look a year by multiplying the answer by 52 weeks a year. I won't get into the lunch aspect which would be cheaper bringing your own.
Here is a great comparative shopping site. Don't forget the bargains!
You should take advantage of getting an annual credit report.
Here's a site that can actually help you enjoy life and save money. I was so impressed I ordered the book!
